FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The Water Retainer® is a substance connected to both soil particles as well as plant roots that retains soil humidity by reducing evaporation loss (loss by capillary effect), and traps and keeps air humidity (e.g. higher humidity of the early morning hours) in the soil in a form that roots can uptake. Thus your plants require up to 50% less water or can withstand a longer period without irrigation/rain.
The Water Retainer is a patented water-based solution of organic hygroscopic and surfactant substances partially of vegetable origin and partially of substances used in the food industry.
The Water Retainer helps retain more humidity on the soil. Your plants may need up to 50% less irrigation water. If you have unirrigated plants (e.g. sunflower, corn, potato, sugar beet, peas, etc.), then your plants can withstand a longer period without water, so they better resist and have better chance to survive a draught.
Ideal water content in soil results in better nutrition uptake and better hydration of plants. In dry and extremely droughty periods your plants may survive up to twice as long without water and diminish the effects of dehydration, and therefore you have a rich crop. It gives you a healthier plants and better yield. Just with more water in soil, you get a better yield. You experience improved efficiency of chemicals that need good water balance to function properly. Improved chemical weed control results in better crops. With balanced water content, you can expect some elements (e.g. Phosphorous) is exposed better, as microorganisms live better in the soil. In irrigated cultures your irrigation costs may get reduced by up to 40-60%.
As not even the Water Retainer can make water, preventive application is recommended, so apply when there is some water left in the soil to retain.
The Water Retainer lasts approximately 3 months. It takes the Water Retainer about three months to degrade in the soil. After that, water content will remain higher than in untreated soils, as it retained water during the active period.
The efficiency of the Water Retainer diminishes over the three-month period. Nevertheless, feel free to repeat the procedure to sustain the effect of the product. It is most beneficial to lawns, orchards, vineyards, or even tomato or paprika.
The common dosage of the Water Retainer is 16 litres/ha. Higher dosage rates are permitted, as use twofold of the nominal rate in lawns, for instance, will be rewarding.
Water Retainer can be mixed unlimitedly with other water-soluble pesticides applied by spraying on ground surface. It ensures application requires no additional operational expenses.
Water Retainer can be mixed with bacteria and biological products. After preparation, apply the solution immediately. Do not store mix.
For application you can dilute the Water Retainer up to maximum 60 times. However, it also functions perfectly if the dosage is the usual 200 l/ha applied in mixture with pesticide after sowing.
It is not recommended to spray the Water Retainer by aerial application. It is important to ensure that the droplets travel the shortest distance possible in air until they hit the ground surface.
Re-entry / withdrawal periods are 0 days.
The Water Retainer helps to develop and sustain a healthy soil life by ensuring balanced water content in soil permanently or over an extended period.
As far as the effect of the product is concerned, we should distinguish irrigated and non-irrigated cultures. By using less irrigation water in irrigated cultures, we also reduce the content of salts detrimental to the soil (reduce alkalization). Reduced fluctuation in ground water supply makes for a more resilient microbiological life. It not only contributes to better humification and availability of Phosphorous, for instance, but also improves the effects of fertilizers by ensuring resolved state. The same applies to application in non-irrigated cultures. The only difference is that plants lasts longer without the detrimental effects of draught, as water remains in the soil longer and therefore keeps soil microbiological intensity longer.
The same rules of application of pesticides, for example, apply to the Water Retainer, since we can mix these chemicals to prepare a solution.
There are other products with a similar purpose to keep water in the soil, but function on the basis of a different principle and are much more expensive. Based on these facts we can say probably there are no similar products available in the market.
The Water Retainer retains moisture coming up through the capillarity from water table, and creates water droplets that roots can take up. It is also capable of taking up moisture from air. Silica-gel-based products function like a sponge, you fill it up and it supplies water gradually. It is a completely different principle of operation.
The Water Retainer can be applied in any vegetation cultures and any soil types, because although it gets attached to both soil particles as well as the root system after application, but does not modify them. It is only present and active.
It is applied the best when you can spray directly on the ground. If it is not possible (e.g. lawn), then wash it off the leaves by irrigating about 2.5 mm of water. On arable lands the best result is achieved if applied together with the first pesticides after sowing. In vegetable cultures the product can be applied before or after planting. If sprayed after planting, then wash the product off the leaves by sprinkling about 2.5 of water. It can be applied to soil in pots too. The same method applies to low plants and plants in pot cultures with pots placed very close to one another.
Yes, the Water Retainer is registered with Biokontroll Hungária Kft.
The Water Retainer is sold in packs of 1㎥, 200.0, 20.0, 10.0, 1.0, 0.4 and 0.1 litres.
Store the Water Retainer in cool, shaded, frost-free place.
The Water Retainer can be used for three years from the date of production if kept unopened in its original packaging.
Stir or shake the Water Retainer well before use. No other instructions apply to use.
After application the Water Retainer gets into the soil and lets rainwater or irrigation water flow freely to lower ground layers that store water. Anytime when soil water content is or above the ideal level, then there is no need for the effects provided by the Water Retainer. In other cases, however, when soil water content drops below the ideal level, then it functions.
If the area was flooded by water permanently for several days, it would degrade the effect of our product.
The Water Retainer primarily effects in the root zone, where water is highly demanded. The effect of the product is therefore depends on the root arrangement. Nevertheless, in the early morning hours when relative air humidity increases, it absorbs air humidity and makes it available for the plant.
It reduces shocking hydrophobicity of topsoil observed after severe droughts. In such periods it helps the soil absorb more rainwater and reduces run-off.
The Water Retainer contains materials that pose no risk at food safety.
